This is a series on how to make your website Google-friendly to maximize your search engine presence.
3 Reasons to Use Headers in your Content
What are "Headers"? These are the page and paragraph titles and summaries that stand out from the rest of your text at the beginning of a new section of the content. Just like in Word or other document creators, there are different levels of headers in website content, starting with quite large font-size and getting smaller at each level, but always staying larger than the main content.
Almost all website editors will allow you to easily designate a block of text as a header. Read below to find out why it's a good idea!
1. Headers make your content easier to read.
One of Google's ongoing mantras is that if your site is useful to real world visitors then it will do well in Google search results as well. To that end, adding headers to your content allows your readers to quickly browse your content and see if it contains something they are interested in. We all hate big chunks of text with no break. Using headers help solve that problem.
2. Headers are used by Google to see if your page is relevant.
Google places special emphasis on text that is in your headers. Because header text is a great place to put summary information, key words that you put into headers show Google that the content on that page is relevant to those key words. So don't lose a chance to put important words in your header titles to show Google what you are talking about.
3. Headers help you stay on topic.
It's a principle of good writing to stay on one concept or idea in each paragraph and section of your content. Forcing yourself to add headers to your content, and making the text in the header a summary for your content, forces you to logically organize your content for the sake of the reader. And remember... if it's good for your visitors, it's good for Google.
Cheers,
