Counseling the Lazy Learner

Counselors meet all types of learning styles in their clientele. In this video segment, I discuss the truly lazy learner and how to overcome this learning style in the counseling process. It is not to be confused with other learning issues that may appear as lazy. Distracted learning may appear as laziness but may be more related to nervousness or an ADHD issue. Lacking control may be the reason a client is hesitant to participate in the counseling process. Other issues may mask as lazy learning such as mental blocks resulting from a traumatic event or hesitancy to engage because of the unfamiliarity with a counseling environment.

With a lazy learner, resistance to benefiting from counseling can be the result of a lazy learning pattern from their developmental environment. Over achieving siblings and over protective parents may contribute to lazy learning. I offer a key strategy of looking at what the client does pursue, such as gaming on their technology equipment. I then show clients that they are keen learners and how to apply that capability to the relationship issues they are facing now and the reason they have come to therapy.

With you in mind,
Norm

What's In A Business Name?

Much more than you may realize.  Think about what you buy on a monthly basis. Everything from breakfast cereal to the clothing you wear has a brand name that the company put a great deal of effort into thinking up, developing and marketing. In choosing a name for your business you will want it to be outstanding, memorable, descriptive, distinctive and target the market you are after. It is an important marketing tool that you will want to make work for you.

Here are a few criteria to use when considering the name of your business:

1. Is it short, easy to pronounce and easy to remember?

2. Does it help people understand what product or service you
are offering?

3. Does it create an image for people that you will be proud
of?

4. Is it distinctive enough not to cause confusion with your competition?

5. Is it trans-cultural enough to stand up in this global marketplace?

6. Does it require a legal element?

7. Last but definitely not least, is it available for use or is it already in existence?

For the next several months we will discuss each of the criteria listed above. Mean while spend some time brainstorming about how you want people to feel when they hear the name.  Write down the words on paper and categorize them as you wish.

Best Regards,
Neva

Promotional Buzz with Tammy Morales

The Oldest And Most Effective Form Of Advertising . . . And It's Free

Do you know what is the most effective way to advertise and market your business?

WORD OF MOUTH

It is the oldest and quite frankly the best way to grow your practice.

I am sure you have heard of the comparisons with a popular movie. What makes you want to see a new flick? Is it the ads on TV? Maybe you see it on a poster in the theatre. For many it actually takes more than that. A recommendation, a promotion. One friend tells another friend who in turn tells their friends about this great movie. And now you find yourself REALLY wanting to see it.

Well the feeling is no different for therapy . . . click here to continue reading.

Warmly,
Tammy

Get Found with Video - Part 2

Last month we talked about why video is becoming very valuable for getting found on the search engines. This month we talk about how to optimize the video on your websites. Since Google and others still can't actually "see" what your video is about, you have to provide extra information to help them along.

*Site Structure*
* Use one video per page with a unique page title.
* If possible put all videos in URL folders like /videos/ which will help search engines know that they are dealing with video. Some Content Management Systems will do this for you if you put all your video pages in a "video" category.
* Make sure you include descriptive navigation links to your videos.

*Page Structure*
* Use embedded players and not pop-ups. Pop-ups are cool but they aren't great for SEO
* Use general SEO principals like a descriptive title, H1 tags, descriptive text. And don't forget to use the word "video" because there is a definite upward trend with people adding the word "video" to their searches.

Follow those simple principals and you will be on your way to better search results.
Cheers,
James
