The "Buzz" at the 2009 CCA Conference
I just got back from the Canadian Counselling Association Conference in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada. The hottest topics discussed there included the business of distance therapy and online counseling, online training, supervision and how the world of counseling therapy is going online.
There was electricity in the air! There were four or five speakers presenting on this topic and I also presented on the topic of "Online Therapy for a Shrinking, Changing Global Community.
In this video I talk about the excitement among mental health professionals over this new way of delivering therapy, the variety of reasons for looking into it and the discussions that came up. As always I look forward to comments!
With you in mind,
Norm

Even in Mental Health the Market is Driven by the Consumer
I spent the better part of a week at the Canadian Counselling Association Conference in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada. I had an exciting week meeting lots of interesting people and discovering what mental health professionals, counselors and therapists are discussing about the practice of online counseling and distance therapy. I was at the IMAGEFaceToFace exhibitor booth along with Tammy Morales and Neva Quantz. One of the first things I noticed is that there is a lot of confusion about what online therapy is exactly. Some think it is email therapy, others think it is text chat. Although those are both a part of the whole picture, at our exhibitor booth we were raising awareness about the platform used within our Business and Education Hub which includes full video and audio, and with all the other available tools our system replicates the in person session experience.
We were able to have our Director of Tech Support, Rumilio Morales join us at the booth via the internet where he met live with many of the conference attendees and he gave them a demonstration of how the online counseling platform works. Ninety-five percent of those that took the tour with Rumilio were . . . Click here to continue reading.

How to Move an Already Thriving Practice Online
You already have a thriving practice and your schedule is booked solid; so why would you consider offering your services online?
Some believe that starting an online practice is for those that are just starting out in the world of therapy. However, that couldn't be farther from the truth.
While at the Canadian Counselling Association National Conference, May 19-22, 2009, I talked with many new and experienced therapists. Many of those with established practices commented to us that they get . . . click here to continue reading.

Free SEO Tips
There is a lot of talk these days about Search Engine Optimization (SEO).
Many companies are spending a lot of money to have companies come in and work with their websites so that their pages show up on the first or second Search Engine Result Page (SERP). And it's not a bad idea, since searches through the major search engines are the main way that many people will arrive at your site, and the money spent can yield some good return on investment if you have a good website.
However, most of us do not have a large (or even small) budget to hire someone to optimize our websites. So over the next couple of months I will be sharing some cheap (as in FREE) things you can do to improve your website's ranking.
Determine what your keywords are and use them frequently. * Don't go overboard, but, as often as you can without making it unnatural, use the words that people will be searching for in your content. Also try to use different combinations of words.
Use those keywords in page titles and paragraph headers.
* Search engines like Google know that if a word appears in a page title or paragraph header that is a good indication that the page content is about those terms, so it gives it more "weight".
Cheers, James
