Therapist to Therapist  with Norm Quantz

When Clients are Emotionally Frozen

Clients often come to therapy not realizing that they are emotionally frozen. One of the frequently asked questions about increasing effectiveness in counseling therapy is concerning how to get one of these emotionally frozen clients to start talking. In this short video clip, I review one aspect of how I address this concern in my own private practice.

With you in mind,
Norm

From the Client's Perspective with Darlene Ouimet
Effective Therapists and the First Impression

Many clients experience a lot of nervousness and anxiety before and during their first meeting with a new therapist. Let's face it- deep down we all know that if we wish to have any degree of success in counseling therapy, we need to become vulnerable. We need to have some willingness to expose our thoughts to the therapist. This is not the most appealing prospect. I have never woken up thinking, "Today I am going to strive to make myself vulnerable to a complete stranger.

What first impression are you making as a mental health professional? Do you know why your clients continue with you? Do you know why they decide not to return?

Clients often tell me about their first time walking into the office, and they have shared some of . . .

The Business Plan - The Why, What and How

This article will address three important questions regarding the Business Plan:

1. Why would I write a Business Plan?
2. What do I include in the Business Plan?
3. How Do I present the Business Plan?

1. Why would I write a business plan?

If you have never written a business plan before you may wonder how you would benefit from doing so. What's in it for me?

Developing a comprehensive business plan involves a great deal of research and hard work but it is the most important business document you will ever prepare.

a) A business plan will help you clarify, focus and research your potential practice. It will help you evaluate your plan and even help you make the final decision to proceed or not.

b) A business plan gives you a guide to follow. It will help improve your practice's chance of success by setting out realistic goals and financial projections against which you can actually measure your practice's performance.

c) If you ever require financing a business plan is considered a must by most potential investors. They will use it to assess the viability of your proposed practice and consequently, determine if they will be willing to lend you the money.

d) Finally, your plan may help you develop as a manager by providing practice in critical thinking about such things as: competitive conditions, promotional opportunities, sources of financing, alternative methods of providing services, etc.

2. What do I include in the Business Plan?

It is important that your business plan be as comprehensive as possible while being contained in 20-25 pages or less in length. The body of your Business Plan should contain the following key elements . . .

Promotional Buzz with Tammy Morales
Brand yourself!

This month take a few minutes to come up with a concise signature phrase that you can use in all your written communications and any audio recordings you do.

How you sign off on your communications can become part of your brand. It becomes a part of your identity to your clients and associates. Soon everyone will know what to expect from you and in this industry, as you well know, trust is one of the biggest factors to consider.

3 keys to developing a signature phrase:

  • Keep it simple (less is really more).
  • Keep it client focused.
  • Say it out loud ~ does it evoke the feelings and emotion you intend?

Now use it intentionally and with purpose in all your communication. Remember that consistency develops trust.

    Warmly,
    Tammy

    Your Online Presence

Should I use Flash on My Website?

The answer, like many things in life, is "it depends". Flash animation can add a lot of pizzazz to your site, but used incorrectly can make your site slow to load, inaccessible to some browsers, and hard to maintain.

Here's a good rule of thumb: Flash content can be excellent as an addition to your page, as long as you keep it small, and use it to display non-essential information. This will allow Google to see the important text on your page and make sure all visitors can get around your site.

You want to make sure that ALL your visitors can read the important information on your site, and that they don't have to wait too long to see it.

    Cheers,
    James
