Therapist to Therapist  with Norm Quantz

Couples Therapy ~ When the Husband Feels "Dragged to Therapy"

Sometimes one partner in the relationship will coerce the other partner into attending therapy with them and it becomes clear that one of the two is not too enthusiastic about being there. How does the effective therapist best handle something like this?

In this short video, I discuss a situation where a husband is "dragged" to therapy by his wife and is showing signs of not choosing to be there on his own. I tell of one example of how I often deal with this type of situation in order to ensure that the husband finds a reason for attending the session for himself and not just to please his wife.

With you in mind,
Norm

From the Client's Perspective with Darlene Ouimet

The Case of the Reluctant Partner

The whole fear thing and the stigma of counseling has at least something to do with a reluctant partner. To name but a few of the worries; fear of the unknown, fear of getting falsely accused, fear of actually being discovered as the problem, the fear of not finding a solution and the concern of being discovered going to marriage therapy by friends or family. Mixed in with the fears are the excuses; not enough money in the budget for counseling, no time, not necessary for us to seek help, everything is fine. Sometimes after months of struggle, the reluctant partner will agree to attend therapy just to keep the peace. In the case of Norm's example, the husband may hope that he can get away with attending sessions exclusively in support of his wife. He might secretly hope that his wife will keep coming for help on her own and leave him out of it.

I see these women who are so hopeful; desperate for some kind of . . .  Click here to continue reading.

For better for performance in your conference room, my recommendation would be to use a headset with a microphone. A headset with USB port works best. Even though your computer may have a built-in speaker and microphone, with my experience, the sound quality on either end is much better for both parties.

    Your Online Presence

    The Deal With Photo Size

I regularly come across websites that make a common, but significant error: they upload and add photos to their website without first resizing to the final display size. Many are not even aware they are doing this because HTML code allows you to "resize" the display of any photo to "look good" on the website.

However, when loading your website, users still have to download the original file (this can be really big from a modern digital camera) and this can change your website load time from 10 seconds to 30-40 seconds or more, and you are likely to lose your visitor.

The solution? Before you upload your photo, use some software to resize the photo to its final display size. I try to keep photos that accompany text to a maximum of 200-300 pixels wide or tall. If you want a larger view with no text, try a maximum size of 600 pixels.

If you don't already have software to do this, try "Irfanview"

This will keep your file sizes small and your page looking good and loading quickly.

    Cheers,
    James
